Larry Lessig Video- "Laws that Choke Creativity"

Larry Lessig’s Ted Talk explains the difference between piracy and remixing in his lecture “Laws that Choke Creativity.” Currently, we live in a generation of creation and re-creation of culture and that is what people participate in. According to Lessig, piracy is people taking and recreating using others’ content, while also using digital technologies to say things differently. Taking songs and remixing them to make something different, however, is how kids understand access to this culture.

I think it is really interesting that technology has so much power. With technology, we are capable of everything and anything, from “illegally” creating a video, to coming up with brilliant ideas that we can share. Technology is a whole other world that actually requires lots of thought, education about rights, and other information. We are drawn to the latest remixes, songs, updates, etc. World connections are made through technology; technology and posting rights open up a new world of possibilities and challenges.
