Photo Tampering in History
While this may not be an outrageous example of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish publication removing a woman from a photo, Kim Kardashian is a big figure in today's society and this situation deserves some recognition. Pictured are Kanye West and Kim Kardashian eating lunch with Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat. When asked about the photo tampering, editor Nissim Ben Haim said Kim Kardashian was a "pornographic symbol" who is inconsistent with the values of their state.
I think tampering with photos to make a person or a situation more appealing, in general, is fine. But it crosses the line when the photo becomes unrealistic in any way. In this case, I am opposed to what the editor has done because Kim represents a big character in our society, despite her history or actions, and it is important to have such a famous person be a woman. I deeply respect other cultures and religions but I do not think this situation pictured above, was enough to crop Kim out.
